It's A New Day

A lot can change in one week.

After last weekend in the hospital and more treatment at CancerCare, things changed.

I am done with chemo. The decision to discontinue chemo was mutual with my doctor. She feels that completing the last two scheduled rounds would have been more harm than good. My body is done. My family is done. I am done. Time to move on to radiation. My intake will be moved up and in approximately three weeks, I will begin.

I knew I was done before heading to Cancer Care yesterday morning. I was ready to celebrate! Brennan and I served cake to everyone in the chemo suite. Almost every patient had a piece. All the staff in the chemo suite and beyond snuck in a piece.

And I rang the bell!

I also received 1 1/2 iv fluids and more iv meds. I will have a number of medication changes in the upcoming weeks, including resuming the letrozole. But my doctor was kind enough to allow me a week off before I must restart it.

I can honestly say that yesterday's experience was one of great joy. The other patients and their guests were all genuinely happy for me. Many kind words and best wishes were extended. The staff all were very happy for me too. 16 chemo treatments. Every Thursday (minus two when my counts were too low) since August 28, 2023. Ready, set, done!

I would like to thank each and every one of you for helping me get to today. It has truly been only with the support of family and friends that I got to this point. It has been a journey that I have not traveled alone. In fact, some of you were dragged through it with me. Not easy on anyone. But through the grace of God, we made it.

Last week I was full of spit, vinegar, frustration, and anger. I apologize if I offended anyone trying to express my feelings and did not do so with respect and consideration.
